Attention skaters: see the cool new technology for skate braking, brought to you in a video by our own Liz Miller. I don't know about you, but I would love to try a pair myself! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd-hR-FsIOk
I've never really liked the traditional heel brake. When wheels were smaller and frames were shorter, it worked exceptionally well but was still something to inadvertantlly "grab" stairs and curbs. Large rocks always found their way between the brake and rear wheel.
On the long frames of the big wheel skates, the heel brake is not nearly as effective.
Skating without a brake on hilly terrain definitely takes a toll on expensive wheels.
I agree, this brake looks very interesting and I too would like to try it.
I heard about this new technology a year or two ago, and have wondered what had happened to it since then. I am jazzed about getting a pair - can't happen too soon, as far as I'm concerned! The braking distance is much shorter than the heel brake; the ease of use might entice some people to take up skating. Sign me up!!
